Hey NYC! May is Bike Month!!!

With the weather warming, our fare city embraces the outdoors with Bike Month. Woohoo!

As a supporter of all things bikes, we hope that everyone takes advantage of all the great events and activities that are going on in the city. Rickshaw also believes in helmets! Come in to the store at 23rd Street anytime this month with your helmet and you will get a 10% discount!

Bike Month NYC is the annual celebration of bicycling in New York City. Each year the Department of Transportation and Transportation Alternatives team up to bring you Bike Month NYC, a city wide campaign to promote the joys of cycling in New York City.

Trucker Amanda loves her two-wheeler!

Beginning in 1990, Bike Month has gone from a one-day celebration of biking to work, to a week long celebration of bicycling in NYC, to a month full of activities that showcase bicycling in NYC and the tri-state region. Cycling in NYC has grown by leaps and bounds during that time. On an average day, 236,000 New Yorkers bicycle—more than double the number who biked only five years ago!

Check out this great video from Transportation Alternatives:

The official website for Bike Month has a calender full of great events that anyone can participate in. Some of the events require you to register, so be sure to head over to the site and sign up for things like the Tour De Brooklyn or the NYC Century Tour, which is the country’s only 100mile all urban bike tour.

If you don’t have a bike of your own, there are some easy ways to get one. Criagslist has a whole sub-forum, dedicated to bikes. One of Oise favorite bike sellers is Alex at Bike Slug: There are other websites like Bike Slug that sell rebuilt bikes that look hip. And if you don’t want to own a bike of your own, you can always rent one! There are dozens of places in the city that offer bike rentals for as low as $6 an hour!!

We love bikes so much at Rickshaw that here are some pics to prove it:

Amanda's rockin' it with style!

Rickshaw's fearless leader, Kenny, speeds through the city!

Jen's got the right idea!

Here’s a video of our camera-shy delivery guy Bonifacio as he makes his way to deliver dumpling goodness to hungry bellies:

Michelle cruising over the (I'm going to guess) the Williamsburg Bridge

Mmmmm it's all about the swagger.

While you’re out and about, stop by Rickshaw Dumpling Bar or Rickshaw Dumpling Truck and get a 10% discount by flashing us your helmet!

Happy riding!!
